The longer you look into the face of Jesus, the more you will want to follow Him and serve Him in this broken world. That is, of course, if it’s the real face of Jesus you’re staring into. At RecenteredGroup we seek to live in relationship with those who fix their eyes on the merciful, grace-filled, loving face of the real Jesus. This invites us into trusting, deep, authentic, and redemptive relationship with Jesus and one another. We’re passionate about helping church leaders and faith communities heal by grace, through love, to realize their destiny in Christ Jesus.

In his career as a pastor, culminating  with turning around the historic Church of the Openen Door, Ed merged his leadership experience as an Army Officer and fireman with his passion for authentic church to help leaders and communities heal from wounds and toxicity that cripple vision and impede sustaining success. He recognized that the problem was drifting from Jesus’ priorities of loving one another and making disciples (The Great Commandment and the Great Commission). The main barrier was that both leaders and their followers felt unsafe and didn’t have the tools to restore trust and move forward into their mutually dependent destiny in Christ Jesus.
One young leader sitting under Ed’s mentorship remarked, “He knows the practical stuff, has a thousand stories to tell, but insists upon viewing leadership as living out of who we are in Christ in webs of loving relationships.”

Ed has authored four books, numerous journal and website articles, and he travels extensively, preaching, teaching, and equipping leaders, leadership teams, mission organizations and chruches. Ed and Judy have three grown children and nine grandchildren.

Kevin Butcher led a church that brought deep healing to one of the most hopeless neighborhoods in Detroit. His story is the disenchanted raised in church story–desperately wanting to please Christ, but living in a shame and guilt, do-better, work-harder for Jesus environment. God met him in his pain, overwhelming him with His love and grace. Over the last twenty-five years, Kevin has journeyed toward a deeper understanding of that healing love, a love that he shares with everyone whom he meets because it is that love that saved his life and brought him home. His first book, Choose and Choose Again, encourages believers to take that brave step back toward God’s love. He speaks and consults extensively, encouraging pastors, leaders, and churches to embrace love as the transformative power of God in Christ. Kevina and  Carla have three grown daughters, and three grandchildren. For more, visit

Kevin and Ed knew of one another during their Dallas Seminary days, but a “chance” meeting at a pastors’ conference in the 80s birthed a friendship. Both Kevin and Ed felt stranded at this conference and agreed that they really didn’t fit in. Conversations about disciplemaking and the grace and love of God welded their hearts to seek relevant Christianity and community. Since that fateful day, Kevin and Carla have been a vital part of Ed and Judy’s lives and ministries.
Kevin Butcher is the lead pastor of Hope Community Church of Detroit, a messy fellowship of human beings from every kind of racial, economic, educational, and spiritually diverse background imaginable, who all have one thing in common: they own their emptiness and pursue healing through the love of God in Jesus Christ. Kevin brings giftedness and experience in healing racially and socioeconomic communities.
Kevin grew up in a religiously rigid, deeply wounding, and dysfunctional home and church, so he tried to heal his own emptiness with perfectionism and over-achievement in ministry. It didn’t work, but God met him in his pain, overwhelming him with His love and grace. Over the last twenty-five years, Kevin has journeyed toward a deeper understanding of that healing love, a love that he shares with everyone whom he meets because it is that love that saved his life and brought him home.
Kevin has written numerous articles and has shared the message of the Father’s love in twelve different countries.  His first book, Choose and Choose Again, is due to be released by NavPress on October 1, 2016.
He has been married to his best friend Carla for thirty-seven years. Together they have three grown daughters, and two grandchildren. To each of them he regularly says, “Don’t forget—please don’t forget—the Father loves you so very, very much.”
